Just arrived from my annual trip across Drangajökull glacier where I measure the location of the glacier snout in Reykjarfjörður (where we have a family summer cabin). The terminus keeps retreating, but this year was less than previous years.
SMB at Tindfjöll glacier yesterday. A mystical place in the fog. Glacier seems to have a very extensive "protecting layer" of volcanic ash from the eruption in Hekla 1947-48. Thick enough to slow down mass loss significantly. People in photo for size ref.
Great talk by @GHilmarGudmund1 tonight at Perla Planiterium about Antarctica, past and future changes. Followed by a guided tour of the @jorfi_iceland anniversary exhibition.
